And so I was driving the same old
road back to my parents house from the almighty lost borderly village of Qaa when it hit me to take the unusual road of Tarchich- Dhour Chweir- Bikfaya. As I enter the village of Hezzerta, right after Zahleh, my right eye spotted "something" red with a bike.
I took like 15 seconds to process what I had just seen, make a U-turn and go back to that thing that seemed a "swiss flag" in the middle of nowhere!
It was indeed Mauro's red and white swiss cycling jersey.
I briefly introduced myself and told him that we were going backcountry skiing in the snowy mountains of Lebanon in the weekend and that we were meeting up with some friends for a bike tour at night in Jounieh.
There he was! Waiting with some of the people in the group in the parking lot. We rode for 3 hours around the city and visited like 14 churches (instead of the usual 7).
On Friday, we went to the beach in the morning and packed our bags for the mountains at night, destination: CEDARS of Bcharreh!
We slept in "Tiger House" hostel and woke up the next day to hit the slopes. Since biking on snow isn't that much fun, it was more logical to rent backcountry skis from the Lebanese Army's barrack in Bcharreh and fit into Christian's ski oufits!
In brief: Yes Lebanon has snowy mountains and ski resorts! And yes you can ski and go to the beach in one day!
And yes Mauro did have his first backcountry skiing journey in Lebanon! KHAZEEEEEE"! :-)
